Our genes control how quickly the natural process of aging will unfold for us.

On average, signs of aging begin to appear in our mid-20s.

Within the skin, collagen production slows and elasticity begins to decrease. Dead skin cells do not shed as quickly and the regeneration of new skin cells decreases. These processes are not immediately reflected in our skin's appearance.

Over time, signs of intrinsic aging appear as:

  • Fine wrinkles
  • Thin and transparent skin
  • Loss of underlying fat - leading to hollow cheeks and eye sockets
  • Loss of firmness to the hands and neck
  • Bone loss - causing bones to shrink away from the skin leading to sagging skin
  • Dry skin that may itch
  • Inability to sweat sufficiently to cool the skin
  • Grey hair
  • Hair loss
  • Unwanted hair
  • Thin nail plates, half moons disappear and nail ridges develop.
